We are honoured to collaborate with the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) to strengthen the Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT). Together, we are investing in leadership development to enhance education policies, teacher welfare, and student outcomes in Lesotho through a four-day intensive workshop. The Canadian Teachers’ Federation has generously contributed CAD $15,000 to support this initiative, demonstrating their commitment to empowering union leaders worldwide.

Why does this matter?

Since its inception in 1986, LAT has faced challenges in trade union education and policy advocacy. This workshop is a crucial step toward building a class-conscious, impactful teacher union that actively shapes education reforms and advocates for the rights of teachers and students.

Workshop overview

Converging our efforts and ideas towards a just and quality education, we’ll be hosting a transformative workshop aimed at empowering the LAT leadership from November 30th to December 5th, in Maseru. This four-day residential event will focus on, among others:

  • Trade unionism: building knowledge and advocacy skills;
  • Collective bargaining: negotiating better working conditions for teachers.
  • Governance: strengthening leadership structures;
  • Policy advocacy: driving progressive education reforms.

With a focus on gender equality and social equity, this workshop will engage 108 leaders and 4 staff members from across Lesotho.

Our commitment

  • Health and Safety: Ensuring a secure environment for all participants.
  • Accountability: Transparent reporting and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Impact: Developing sustainable strategies to transform education in Lesotho.

Impact of the activity

The workshop is designed to drive transformative impacts across technical, policy, and social levels for the target group. On the technical level, the training will provide critical skills on governance, trade union organizing models, advocacy, lobbying, collective bargaining, to all LAT leadership, comprising of women, men, and youth. At the policy level, the workshop will empower the participants with knowledge on the decolonization of education, which aims at developing curriculum designs that effectively respond to Lesotho national needs and priorities. On a social level, post-training, the LAT will robustly engage the public on the labour relations and education policy landscape in Lesotho, and the desired reforms.

Let’s work together to create a brighter future for teachers, students, and local communities! #CTFFCEPartnership #EducationMatters #LATLeadership
