WHO ARE WE?
LAT is a teachers union founded in 1986.It is a professional union of Primary and Post-Primary teachers of Lesotho. It was registered in 1995 under the LABOUR CODE ORDER (No. 24) of 1992.
OUR GOAL
LAT goal is to jealously safe guard all the socio-economic and professional rights of teachers in Lesotho as they are enshrined in the ILO/UNESCO recommendations on status of teachers.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER
To become a member, a teacher fills up a membership form that can be collected from LAT Office in Maseru, or from every member of the National Executive Committee and Branch Committees. A teacher will then pay a monthly subscription fee of M25.00, which will be deducted through stop order.
HOW TO TERMINATE MEMBERSHIP
To terminate membership, a teacher writes a letter to the Secretary General of LAT indicating such a wish, with a cover of a recent pay slip, and sends it to LAT Office.
WHAT WE DO?
- We Offer Representation And Legal Assistance To every Teacher-Member When Such A Call Arises Due To Work-Related Issues,
2. Through The EFAIDS Programme, We Are Fighting HIV And AIDS, And Their Effects Among Teachers And Learners,
3. We Advocate For The Best Government Policies And Strategies For The Development Of Teachers.
4. We Advocate For The Improved Working Environments, Including Enough Salaries, Technology And Resources Necessary For Teaching, As Well As Real Protection In Terms Of Occupational Health And Safety For Teachers In the Country.
5. We Work Towards Ensuring That Teachers Receive In-Service Training And Professional Development Within The Profession In Order To Keep Them In Touch With New Findings In Their Subjects, And To Obtain Continuous Support For The Improvements Of Their Teaching Methods.
6. Most Importantly, We Have Joined Hands Together To Empower Ourselves To Stand Up For Our Rights Through Collective Bargaining Powers.
