Mission, Vision and Values
LAT is a teachers’ trade union founded in 1986, that represents teachers and workers’ rights and welfare in Lesotho.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to champion and defend the interests, rights, and well-being of teachers; fight for socio-economic justice in the workplace; and most importantly, strongly advocate for the provision of a free, inclusive, and quality education for all by the state.
- Advocacy: We advocate for improved working environments, better education policies, and the professional and socio-economic rights of teachers.
- Teachers’ support: We also provide legal assistance and representation to teachers and encourage their professional development and in-service training.
- Education reform: We continuously work to address issues in the education system, promote a just, quality, and inclusive education for all, and the decolonization of the education system.
OUR CORE VALUES
As a union, we are guided by the principles of class consciousness and comradeship – notions inspired by Marxist political theory. We believe it is crucial to be aware of one’s socioeconomic position in society as a means to unite around the shared interests of fellow workers under domination. Through this awareness, we can strengthen our ability to make a meaningful impact on teachers’ lives.
Additionally, with teamwork, accountability, and integrity at the heart of our values, we are able to shape a path that centers Lesotho’s education system, beloved teachers, and the future of the country and its students.
OUR PARTNERSHIPS
Our partnerships are more than collaboration; they are the foundation that makes our mission possible. Through shared values and collective action, our partners help us create sustainable change, empowering today’s teachers and inspiring the next generation.
