The Lesotho Association of Teachers (LAT) and the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) have kicked off a partnership designed to assist needy learners in Lesotho aspiring to be teachers. This initiative is supported through OTF International Assistance Fund in fulfilment of LAT mandate not only to advocate for free quality education for all but also to contribute in emancipating the lives of vulnerable children in the education sector in Lesotho. To start, OTF offered funding to a tune of $709.54.
Wednesday the 1st September 2021 marked the beginning of the foregoing partnership with two students receiving Four Thousand Maloti (M4000.00) each for payment of school fees and examination fees. Bokang MOTSAMAI from Leqele High School and Molefi MOTSOANAKABA are the recipients of the OTF Funding which came just in time to give hope to the two students. One of the learners was already deregistered for the 2021 Final Examinations since he had not paid both school fees and examination fees. However, the Examination Council of Lesotho (ECOL) was magnanimous enough to re-register the student for the examinations upon receipt of the funds.
The funds were officially handed over to the two learners by the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Training, Dr Lira KHAMA. At the ceremony were, among others, Lithabanang High School Principal, Mr Sephunyane LEBOEA, Leqele High School Deputy Principal Malerato MOKHELE, teachers from both schools and students.
Lesotho Association of Teachers is indebted to our dear friends-Ontario Teachers’ Federation for this partnership which is intended to be a long-standing relationship bearing palatable fruits for the member countries.
